ROY FARMS OF YAKIMA IS WASHINGTON’S FIRST SALMON-SAFE CERTIFIED HOPS GROWER
THURSDAY, JANUARY 24, 2013

Roy Farms, a family-owned diversified farming operation in Moxee, Washington, has become the first Yakima hop grower certified for protection of water quality, water conservation, and other farming practices to protect the local watershed. Roy Farms also was one of the first Yakima Valley farms to seek Salmon-Safe certification through a pilot project utilizing a new quantitative tool to test pest management ecological impacts. The farm achieved Salmon-Safe certification on organic parcels totaling 150-acres. Certified hops from Roy Farms will be featured by leading Northwest craft brewers including Hopworks Urban Brewery.

Roy Farms prides itself in developing and implementing new farm technology across all of its crops: Apples, Blueberries, Cherries as well as both Alpha and Aroma hop varieties. The 2013 Hop Harvest will mark the farm’s 106th consecutive hop harvest in the Moxee valley.

Salmon-Safe operates through a network of place-based conservation partners and our Yakima collaborating organization is South Central Washingon Resource Conservation & Development Council.
